The Creative Arts Department at Brookfields School is a very exciting department as we recognise the importance that creative arts has in the life of all pupils.
We combine the subjects of Art, Music, Movement and Drama to form a comprehensive and exciting approach to developing all pupils’ creativity that builds on their strengths and interests.
Our purpose built facilities and resources include a large, multi-purpose Art room and a newly developed Drama, Music and Dance studio with state of the art lighting and sound. In the Primary School, Creative Arts is delivered by the classroom teacher whereas in the Secondary School students are taught by subject specialists.
Creative Arts takes on a very multi-sensory approach, particularly for pupils with either Severe Learning Difficulties, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties and for pupils with a physical or s
ensory impairment.
In Art, pupils experience working with a wide range of different mediums such as clay, plaster, print, fabric, paper, glue, pastels and paint. They can study and learn about the work of specific artists and explore 2D and 3D work. We often welcome visiting artists to the school who work with the pupils and teachers in developing themes.
In Drama and Music lessons students experience a range of ever changing environments and sounds in our Drama, Music and Dance studio.
There are many opportunities for students to immerse themselves in Creative Arts outside the classroom with regular art clubs and school plays, as well as some Secondary School students taking part in the National Shakespeare School Festival or L.A.M.D.A exams.
