Both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 5 visit Blaen Wern Farm, in West Wales once a year. The trips last from Monday to Friday. During the residential trips the students all learn essential independence skills and develop confidence and communication skills. The trips also give parents, other siblings and carers valuable respite opportunities.
During the trip various activities are undertaken; a day trip to the beach is an essential part of the trip and we usually get at least one day of sunshine to accommodate it. Other activities include a morning out shopping, a trip on a steam railway, visits to local tourist attractions such as the gold mine and a tractor ride around the farm boundaries. Alongside these activities a lot of time is spent in and around the farm relaxing or exploring. This is when the students get the vital opportun
ities to learn to play and interact with each other in and out of school setting. There is also the opportunity to swim in the centre's own swimming pool.
All students and staff really enjoy the trips, even though all are exhausted by the end of the week.
