Brookfields Pupils are Getting Set for the Olympic Games 2012!

All of the staff and pupils at school are looking forward to being part of London’s 2012 Get Set network. The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has awarded Brookfields a plaque and certificate to acknowledge our involvement in the London 2012 education programme.  We are now a part of an active London 2012 community of schools and colleges across the UK– the Get Set network - and will receive access to exclusive competitions and 2012 Games related opportunities over the coming years.

Seb Coe is chairman of LOCOG and he said, “I am proud to welcome Brookfields School to the Get Set network for their exciting work around the Olympic Values of friendship, excellence and respect and the Paralympic Values of inspiration, courage, determination and equality”.

David Maycock is the teacher who is behind all of the Get Set work at Brookfields and he is really excited about the focus that the Olympic Games provides. He said, “London 2012 is helping to spark young peoples imagination and inspiring them to get involved and make a difference. It is going to enhance young people’s learning right across the curriculum. As well as being great fun, all of the activities that we are planning will help our youngsters in the development of leadership, personal, thinking and life skills”.

All of David’s events will relate to an in-school reward system based on encouraging Olympic Values. A cross curricular day will be a highlight and we are hoping for a visit from at least one Olympian! The official launch day will take place on 13th January 2011 with a tag rugby event at Brookfields School.

If you would like to learn more about our involvement with the Olympics and Paralympics, please contact the school on
0118 942 1382 and ask for David Maycock.
