Brookfields School is Leading the Way!

We are delighted that, following the detailed scrutiny of 145 applications from schools across the UK by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, Brookfields School has been chosen for the Trial Phase of the Complex Learning Difficulties and Disabilities (CLDD). The project is being led by Prof. Barry Carpenter of the Trust who has been appointed by the Disability Rights Commission as their representative on the General Teaching Council for England. Barry has chaired the UK National Inquiry into the Mental Health Needs of Young People with Learning Disabilities and was awarded the OBE by the Queen in 2001, for services to children with special educational needs.

Jen Angilini, one of our Early Years teachers, put our bid together and will be leading the Brookfields team in the research. We are thrilled to have been selected and are looking forward to sharing our ideas, approaaches and experiences.

This is a ground breaking project and an opportunity to develop and share groundbreaking practice in the work with pupils who have CLDD. Through the collaborative work across 50 schools in the UK, Prof Barry Carpenter's research will lead to a critical analysis of approaches and the development of a new pedagogy.
