This week is Communication Week at Brookfields School and we opened the week’s events with our favourite TV personality, friend and communicator extraordinaire, Justin Fletcher MBE from CBeebies!

It was great to welcome Justin back to the school and for those pupils who filmed ‘Something Special’ with him to meet up again. Justin and Brandon led the assemblies where we sang Justin’s ‘Hello’ song before he taught us the signs that we would be using this week. As you can imagine, the pupils were thrilled to see him and their reactions were priceless. Justin was very impressed by the pupil’s communication skills and commented on how all the pupils were very engaging.

Throughout the week, pupils and staff will be having fun using a range of communication skills through use of signing, symbols, playing communication games in lessons and exploring how technology can be used to assist with communication.

Communication is embedded in all that we do at Brookfields School as it is the key to the pupils’ successes and achievements.  The school has a Total Communication Policy which forms the bedrock of communication at the school. The Speech and Language Therapy team headed up by Miriam Gulliford is an integral part of the whole school approach to communication and have led the way in developing the schools holistic and integrated approach to support the pupils’ communication skills.
