Enterprising Brookfields

Students from Brookfields were busy at the Theale Vineyards Food and Wine Show held on 10th September. They started the new term by showcasing some of the products from their Enterprise Education programme. The show was organised by Laithwaites and held at the Theale HQ where a complimentary mix of local products and fine wines from around the world were on offer.

The unique Brookfields products are all made by re-cycling wooden wine cases from the top quality estates that Laithwaites work with. Items include garden plant markers, key rings, key holders, cork boards and superb trays with Chateau names.

Head Teacher Jane Headland was at the event and highlighted the point that “Students learn valuable practical work skills in the production phase and then have an opportunity to sell their goods and interact with the public. It brings the world of school and work together in a totally realistic way’’.

The trays have also been sold at London landmark store, Vinopolis and many of the corks used for the boards arrive via a link with London’s Savoy Hotel. Enterprise Education leader, Trevor Coles was full of praise for the link with Laithwaites. He said, “They are a family business and have always made us feel part of the family. The benefit to our youngsters has been outstanding and the products we make are so popular that we cannot keep up with demand’’.
