About us

We are a West Berkshire School located on the East of the county, offering specialist provision to pupils aged 3 to 19, all of whom have complex special educational needs. We take pupils from Reading, Maidenhead and Windsor, Hampshire, Bracknell and Wokingham. Most of our pupils come to school, on transport provided by the Local Authorities which means having an effective means of communication, such as this website, is of vital importance in keeping the community involved at the heart of what we do.

Brookfields is an Outstanding Special School (Ofsted 2019), which aims to work collaboratively with families in all we do, to ensure that our pupils have the very best chance of success in their life after Brookfields. We cater for children and young people with Learning Difficulties as their Primary Need whether Profound and Multiple, Severe or Moderate. A majority also have additional diagnosis such as ASD, ADHD, Visual or Hearing Impairment, dual sensory impairment or have additional physical difficulties. We are not equipped to cater for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties. We work in small classes with high levels of teaching and support staff, through personalised learning programmes of work in order to enable each pupil to access the education they need.

All pupils at the school are offered a broad, balanced, stimulating and relevant curriculum regardless of their background, culture or ability. Each pupil is valued for who they are and what they bring to the school. We appreciate and celebrate the richness of diversity within the school community as well as the wider community. Through the work we do across the school on developing emotional self-regulation and the core values, we actively promote the importance of tolerance, co-operation, courage, determination, friendship and respect. Through this approach, pupils develop independence, confidence and integrity which prepares them for their future lives.

Our vision is to enable every student, regardless of their starting point, to achieve their full potential. This can only be achieved through providing outstanding teaching, a relevant personalised curriculum and the best possible care. We have a wide range of exceptional professionals, all with a shared passion and commitment towards this common goal.  You can view our Mission, Vision and Values here Mission, Vision and Values
