Accreditation

At Key Stage 4 and 5 Brookfields is currently able to offer the current accreditation and certification for pupils who meet the required cognitive standard (with reasonable adjustments applied)

  • GCSE Art
  • Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award
  • Level 1 Food Hygiene (online)
  • First Aid

In making the decision as to which pupils may be considered for accreditation and certification heads of department and subject leads will consult with individual pupils, parents and carers and class teachers including through the Annual Review of EHCP process.

Currently Brookfields does not offer certification or qualification in English and Maths but this is kept under yearly review. Our rationale for this is that with an increasing population of learners with Severe and Complex learning difficulties, in order to learn ‘fewer things in greater depth’ we must prioritise the securing of basic and fundamental skills over ‘examination’ knowledge acquisition without secure generalisation or application of this knowledge being embedded within its implementation.

However, we do recognise that for some pupils Functional Skills level 1 or 2 qualifications are a legitimate progression route for learning and life. Therefore through consultation with individual pupils, parents and carers and class teachers including through the Annual Review of EHCP process and progress evenings we will identify those for whom further syllabus study at level 1 or 2 in English and Maths is both possible and desirable and partner with local secondary schools to deliver this or recommend end of Year 11 transfer to Further Education College.
